I was very much impressed by the quality customer service by Airtel Broadband in Chennai. So, I opted to use Airtel for my mobile phone, when I came to Odisha, though I knew that Airtel is costly than other providers. At that time Docomo launched recently and people were enquiring about it, still I preferred Airtel.

But my relation with Airtel in Odisha did not run well. Once I activated a data plan by sending an SMS and then connected to the Internet. Their servers took really long time to process the request, which I was not aware of. I got disconnected after few minutes and I saw around Rs 153 deducted from my account balance and I have Zero balance. I complained this by calling Airtel customer support (they charge money to talk to their customer support executives). They assured me that they will solve my complaint in three days. Nothing happened. Three days later, I once again called them, talked to the senior of normal support executives. They showed me some stupid statistics and data and ignored my complaint. I showed my frustration, but they ignored. And I preferred to get new number from Tata Docomo (we don’t have porting facility available then) and not to use Airtel anymore, unless there is a high requirement.

Once I recharged my sister’s phone online, which is on Reliance GSM. Instead the balance to appear on the main balance, it appeared under promo balance, which expired in just few days without use. I tried to call their customer support all these days, but what it responded was, “This number does not exist”. I asked many people, including their vendors, whether their customer care number changed to something else. But everyone told me that this is the only number they have. Pathetic.

Few days before, some people were working on something on our terrace and those stupid dumb-ass people moved the outdoor unit of our Reliance Digital TV to a different direction. I was not aware about that. When I switched on the TV in the evening, I saw the error, which says “Signal not found”. Normally this happens in case of heavy rain. Then I went to terrace to see whether they have teased the antenna. But I did not find anything wrong with it (in fact, there was, but I did not notice it). We were expecting that our balance on account will be finished by that day. So, I checked it online and found there is a negative balance. I recharged it immediately. I thought there might be some error, which is showing a different error message. But recharging the account, restarting the DTH machine – nothing solved the problem. We were too busy for next 2-3 days, so we ignored the error and forgot that we watch TV. On the fourth day, I got some time and called customer support for help.

I explained everything to the customer support executive, he understood everything, followed the troubleshooting process. Then we confirmed that there is some issue with the direction of outdoor unit (as I knew that few people were working on our terrace) and they need to send their engineer to fix the issue. He informed me that an amount of Rs 175 will be deducted from our account balance for this. I am absolutely OK with this and I agreed to create a request.

Then the support executive confirmed our address. He asked our pincode, I said “753004″. He said that it’s 753001 there. I said, “it’s OK, change that pincode to 753004″. Then he replied to change the pincode we need to recharge our account, so that they can deduct Rs 350.

I got shocked! “What? Rs 350 to change the pincode from 753001 to 753004?”, I replied. He said, “it’s the relocation charge.” I said, “but we are not relocating.” And we are not so stupid that we have provided you the wrong pincode. “It’s the mistake of your data entry operator.” (Actually, I should have said, perhaps it’s the mistake of your data entry operator. I was also thinking in my mind that, perhaps the vendor make mistake while filling the form or something. But I said “It’s the mistake of your data entry operator.” to enforce my point.). “Can’t you send your engineer to the address I am saying now?”.

He said, “no, it’s not possible. We can only send our engineers to the address in our database”. “Ok, fine.”, I told him, “Why don’t you send your engineers to the address currently in your database, without changing 753001 to 753004?”. He replied, “no, this is not possible. We can’t take your request”.

“Instead paying you Rs 350 for changing the pincode from 753001 to 753004, I would prefer to throw your setup box out and will get a new one from another service provider. Which will cost me around Rs 700.”, I told that in frustration and anger.

“Why will you do that? Why will you pay Rs 700, instead Rs 350?”, he replied.

“It’s better to use another service. I don’t like your system and the process.” I told that and thought myself the rest, “… And I may get more regional channels”.

“Ok, please stay on the like, I am going to forward this call to my senior”, he replied me back.

After few seconds another guy welcomed me and asked why I am denying to create a request to send their engineer. I told him the whole story. He replied that this is their process. Then I replied with anger and frustration, “Instead paying you Rs 350 for changing the pincode from 753001 to 753004, I would prefer to throw your setup box out and will get a new one from another service provider. Which will cost me around Rs 700. I hate your system and process. This is all wrong.”

“Why are you saying that. You are an old customer of us and we don’t want you to let you go like this. I am trying my best to solve your problem.” He replied.

“I recharged Rs 250 and I am not using the TV. Everyday around Rs 5 is getting deducted from my account balance. Is it possible for you to freeze the account balance? Then I will relocate after 2-3 months and will pay you Rs 350 as the relocation charge.” I asked, still with anger.

“You can do this by paying some amount and there are three types of it. 30 days, 50 days and 90 days”. He also told me the amount I have to pay to stop using the service for these intervals. “And you can do this once in a year”.

“And why don’t you send your engineer to the address what you have right now, without changing the pincode?”, I asked.

“This is because every engineer has assigned different areas covering different pincode. If we will create request and the engineer will not go to your place and close the request. Still the amount will be deducted from the account without any solution.” he said.

“No, this is not the solution. Both pincodes are of Cuttack, but under different post offices. I don’t think the engineer will have any problem solving the issue. Well, if it’s not possible, the best thing for me is to throw these equipments out and get a new one from another service provider. Shall I disconnect the call?” I threatened.

Then the executive created the request to send their engineer to see the problem and fix it. The engineer reached our home in 6-7 hours and solved the issue in few minutes by turning the outdoor unit to proper direction. I was not at home to see what they did. But the problem got solved.

Here is the difference of how Airtel vs Reliance talks to their customer.

Airtel CS: We will solve this in x days.

After x days…

Airtel CS: There is no issue. You have done xyz….

Customer: WTF? You have any idea you are talking about? How it is possible?

Airtel CS: @#$%^&#$%^&*()*&^$!@#$%^&*(^$# (blaming the customers)

Customer: I am going to throw your sim out and use another service provider.

Airtel CS: As you wish. (We have a large base of customers, we don’t care you go.)

***
Customer: I am going to throw your stuff and get a new one from another service provider.

Reliance CS: Why are you saying that? You are an old customer of us. I am trying my best to solve your problem.

And they solve your problem despite of their bad system and process.

In my last post, I posted a review of the book “The Habit of Winning” as a part of the book review program at BlogAdda.com. Soon after the review, I received another book from BlogAdda.com up for review. This time it was “I’m not twenty four… I’ve been nineteen for five years…” by Sachin Garg. I felt good, as I recently read an awesome book and I am going to read another one. I planned to read it as soon as possible, so that I can write the review within 7 days.

No one was at our home, so the courier guy delivered the book to the friendly security guard of the ATM near my home. I even had not received the book ‘The Habit of Winning’ myself, and my sister received it, while I was sleeping. So, when we returned back to home, that guy handed me the parcel. Form the cover of the parcel, I confirmed that it’s the new book I am getting to review. I opened the packet and liked the cover of the book. (Though I have seen the cover, while showing my interest for this book, but seeing it in real is special). When I opened the book, the paper and the print quality did not impress me. I loved these on the book ‘The Habit of Winning’. Anyways, this one costs less too, so no complain.

Normally the genre of the book is written on most of the books. And before I enter into the book, I look into each and every stuffs outside. I find this missing. I had missed to read more about the book earlier. From the cover and the title, it looks like a romantic story. It might be a fiction or the author may claim this is a true story. And again the title of the book sounds like an inspirational book. This might be the effect of the recent book I completed reading. All these came into my mind. Before I read this book, my sister told me that she want to read this book too. I know that the photo on the cover of this page inspired her.

I started reading the book, but the first few pages did not interest me much. And I got so busy with my personal work that, I forgot to read this book and write a review in 7 days. Though I got a reminder email from the BlogAdda.com team, but I hardly got any time for this. Then they called me and reminded me to read and write the review. He game me a new deadline, and I promised to write a review in that time.

I had less than 3 days time with me, with lots of work to do. And I managed to get time on the last day of the deadline. I went on reading the book. I was leaving the little boring part and gradually entering into the interesting part. Then I read the most interesting part of the story. Then some socking and tragic part, though interesting. So, it was a complete roller coaster ride.

When the author introduced the central character of the story, Soumya, I thought is this a boy or girl? And this thought is reflected in the story. Soumya, one the beautiful name, but it’s a unisex name. Anyone can get confused about the gender of the person with the name. Finally, I came to know that she is a girl. But few other characters of the story were still thinking that Soumya is a boy. Then this confusion lead her to a job location, a job profile she has never thought of.

Then she meets an Indian hippy, had a crush and with two other friends they get drunk. Shubhro, the Indian hippy, told his story. How he left a promising career of a banker after completing his MBA in Finance from IIM-Kolkata and was roaming around the world, staying at a place for 90 days and leaving without any clue and hesitation. This part of the book, I loved most. His story is interesting. Sometimes, I think to leave everything behind and roam around the world. If not the world, at least in India. I thought, is he the main character of the story?

Then Soumya returns to her work and encounters many tragedies and accidents related to her work profile, which are normal in a steel plant, but was too scary for the girl who never thought there is world outside the malls of Delhi. How would you react, when you get the news that someone you kissed few hours before was brutally killed, because some other did not like that he kissed you? I told you before, it’s a roller coaster ride.

Then Shubhro re-enters life of Soumya. You know it already that Shubhro will leave after 90 days. In those 90 days, Shubhro surprises Soumya with his usabilities. She was thinking he is useless, but he found to be useful. And on the 90th day, they discover that they are in deep love with each other. But Shubhro was not found on the 91st day, as you might have expected.

After that Soumya reads the blog of Shubhro and discover surprising things about him. Now she is understanding what’s the mission of this mysterious guy. You will find three shades of the character of Shubhro in the view of Soumya. Then after reading this blog, she gets the hint that where she can find Shubro. She books a ticket to go to him and be his partner in his mission for rest of her life.

This is a good book to read. The only thing I did not like about the book is the typesetting. There are many typos in the book. And at some places, the author used more words to explain a simple situation. This might distract you from the story. You may buy this book and read it. You may love the roller coaster ride. But I am still confused, whom should I call central character of the book – Soumya or Shubhro. (You will read this story in Soumya’s voice).

Around a month back, I have posted about how I am interested to read different books. I have bought few books in the past, caught few in libraries, got a couple of them from friends as gifts, but I have only completed few of them. But this time, I completed a book in less than 10 days (I could have completed this within a week, but this week, I was really much busy.). So, what made this change? There are two reasons: first one is I have to write a review within 7 days and the second one is what I learned (yes, learned) in the book.

I was selected to review the book ‘The Habit of Winning’ by Prakash Iyer by the Book Reviews Program at BlogAdda.com. Earlier, I have applied for few books under this program, but never selected to review any. When I saw that this book is up for review, it just came into my mind that I should read this book. Fortunately, I was selected for this book. One day I was too tired and was sleeping during the day time; when I wakeup, I found a beautiful book is there on the desk with a personalized letter from Nirav Sanghavi and a BlogAdda.com bookmark. Before I look anything, my eyes caught what Harsha Bhogle says about this book, printed on the cover of the book. He says,

After being long imprisoned by an outstanding manager, an excellent
writer breaks through … He has something that will plant seeds in your mind.
Read it, follow what he has to say and those seeds will blossom into fine oaks.
You will cherish this offering.

I thought myself, Harsha Bhogle, so is this book talks stories of cricket to inspire and motivate? Well, I think I am going to love this. Then I opened the book and found a message with autograph form Prakash Iyer himself. This is the first time I got a book with autograph of the author, awesome. When I start reading any book, I read from the first page, never leave foreword, preface etc. But before I do so, I looked inside to have a quick view. I noticed a chapter “‘Mein Khelega’ The Making of a Champion Called Sachin Tendulkar”. I had watched the video of Navjot Singh Sidhu telling this story of Sachin on Facebook few days ago. I had really enjoyed that and I got confirmed that the journey with this books is going to be awesome.

I started reading the book, from the page one, as I always do. As I was completing one chapter with a smile on my lips and moving to the next one, I was also telling myself few things: “Yes, I did this right.”, “Yes, I am doing this right.”, “No, I did this wrong.”, “No, I am doing this wrong and I have to change the way I am doing.” etc. I started to feel the change within me. You don’t need to wait for the completion of the book and implement the advices given in your life to see the change, to see the winner within you. As you continue reading the book with love, your approach to your life, your work and your surroundings will change and your will feel the winner within you.

Now I am going to tell you how I enjoyed the book and what I loved most in the book. Before, I write anything here, let me tell you; if you are reading this book read the foreword by R. Gopalakrishnan before reading the chapters of the book. If you read the foreword, later when you will come across the stories in the book, you will enjoy it more.

So in the first section, Prakash tells you about the visson and goals. The first story tells your about how to think high, how to highly perceive your rolls. It advices you to judge your contribution, not your work. Then Prakash tell you how to set a goal by telling what do you need to climb a mountain – the mountain itself. Then he advices you to stay focused to your goal, by telling about a speech of Jack Ma – Don’t Change Your Rabbit.

In the second section, Prakash tells you about Self-belief. How is the Winner’s Mindset, how to break your mental barriers, how to find success near you – no need to search here and there for it, the special abilities in you, in everyone, and how to think positively every time – you will learn all these in this section.

The next section tells you about Perseverance. This starts with ‘Mein Khelega’ story of Sachin. As I said earlier, I knew that I would enjoy this one. Then I learned about Chinese Bamboo, which takes 5 years and 3 months to grow over 80 feet high. Nothing happens in the first five years after you plant the seed, then it takes just 90 days (yes, just 3 months) to shoot up to a towering eighty feet. I got really impressed. Then I learned how Atapattu did not give up after early recurring failures on the international level and became a successful player and how Anil Kumble showed his spirit for commitment by playing with a fractured jaw (which I had read in news earlier). And then how the one-degree-more makes a difference. This is what I always think about and try to put in my efforts.

The next section tells you about Winner’s Mindsets. It also includes 5 interesting stories. Two of which I read in social networks sharing: the story of a ladies with cookies at an airport and a woman with dirty laundry.

The next section tells you about GIVING. It has 4 nice chapters. There are two of which I really love. In one story, one guy goes to the hell and saw people around a table having awesome foods with a long spoon attached to their hands and how they are struggling to eat any food. Then I told myself, why these stupid people don’t feed each other? That guy goes to the heaven and found the similar situation as the hell, but with a difference. Here these kind people were feeding each other. Then the next awesome story is how M.K. Gandhi threw his second shoe towards the first one, while losing the first one whole catching a train. I know, how it feels when you lost one shoe. But if you will ever found yourself in the situation like Gandhi, you will love to do what he did.

The next two section tells you about Hard Work and The Winner’s Way, respectively. In the The Winner’s Way section, I loved two stories. One of them is a goalkeeper’s mentality during a penalty kick and the other one is how Japanese used Sharks to keep fishes fresh and tasty.

The next section tells you about Wining with Teams. Here the author talks about the Dahi Handi B-School. A single event in a year, where people break Dahi Handis in Mumbai, but teaches 10 important lessons. I loved this one. Then the another very interesting story is about how kites teaches you important roles of subordinates in the success of leaders.

The next section talks about how important role Other People play, while you are moving towards your goal. And then follows a very important part of life, Finding Balance, in the next section. It teaches you many important aspects of life, which included how to stay happy. It explains you the important role of the word ‘Enough’. Then the climax of the book tell you to Take Action. An important advice to break all those snooze buttons and throw them out.

As I told before, I felt change as soon as I started reading the book. This book not only helping me to be winner in my own area, it also makes things easy for me. I take stories from this book and tell to other people around me to explain few needed things. So this is a most recommended book for you all to read. Must recommended, if you want to be winner of life.

I watched the episodes of the competitive cooking game show MasterChef India 2. As some of you must know, that I love food, so I like this show. Among those 50 contestants in the bootcamp, one girl caught my attention. Not because of her cooking skills or the food she prepared, but because of her attitude (and for her beauty too). She is none other than Amrita Sodhi, 29 years Business Woman from Delhi.

Yes, the attitude, the attitude of a winner. She did not perform well in the bootcamp, perhaps because of a little overconfidence (in the first round) or ill luck and failed to enter the MasterChef kitchen. But whenever I saw her on the TV screen, she looked happy, she was smiling, she was looking confident, she was singing, she was congratulating, she was hugging others and she was looking like a winner. She is the winner of her life.

She is a really inspiration for me. And to be a winner, we need to have the winning attitude like her. Whether we win or loose, we should not fail. The smile on our face, the happiness of participating and doing our best should be with us, while knowing the result. Then we can be winners of life.

Update: I learned from the stats of this blog that many people want to know about the song Amrita sang on her last episode of MasterChef India 2. So, I decided to help them by providing more info on this. She sang the song “Sabse Peeche Hum Khade” from the movie Aao Wish Karein.

I always want to read books, almost all types: stories, novels, fictions, non-fictions, inspirational, biographies, etc., but no textbooks. I want to read all good books in Oriya, English and translated books of all other languages. I found few in the old trunks of my father containing his old stuffs, bought few, and few gifted by friends. But I able to complete only very few of them – one or two of them. I read few chapters from others. I guess there are one or two books, which I have not yet started reading. As I remember, the last book I have completed is Lajja by Taslima Nasreen (translated to Oriya by Nandini Satpathy.

Most of the time, I find myself staying glued to a computer. Whenever I get a leisure time at home, I watch TV. So, I can have an excuse, that I am not getting time to read books. There was a time, when we were having 2 hours of scheduled power cut everyday. I was using this time to read something, but once I setup UPS for my home-office, it became very easy to stay glued to the computer during that time. I have downloaded few eBooks, but when I am trying to read those, I hardly able to concentrate. Even I have installed Amazon Kindle applications on my chrome browser, my android phone. I have downloaded many classics (because they are free), but don’t read these.

Whether I read books or not, no one is going to bother. There are many people who love to read books and they read books by anyhow. Some of them buy the books they want to read, some read at libraries, some read books by borrowing etc. But I think many people don’t read as much they want, because they need to spend their money on other stuff than the books. Also, those people who buy and read must be not reading those books again and again after they finish. So the books may keep collecting the dust lying on the bookshelf. It’s not possible for everyone to go to the library and read books. Even there are not wide coverage of libraries having all the books at places allover the world. Even there are very few lending libraries. So here comes a solution – book rental services. The problem with these services are: some of them does not cover all places in India (or World), according to me they are costly and there may not be few title people looking for. What could be a better solution?

A long time ago, I was thinking about an idea. (Perhaps, in the toilet. That’s the best place to think about any idea.) The idea is to create a web platform, so that book lovers can share their books with other members after they complete it. You have to spend money on buying few books (if you don’t have any, at least you need one book to contribute) and on couriers to send/share the books, after you complete them. With this nominal contribution, you can read many books as per your interest. It will work much better than the book suggestion services. If you like any book and want to keep a copy for yourself as a collection, then you can keep the same book or you can buy that book.

The idea came to my mind since more than a year ago. But all ideas are stupid, unless they are not properly executed. The power of the ideas lies in the execution. Now I found another service, which is quite similar to my idea. It’s BookCrossing. Interestingly their idea is quite old – it launched on April 17, 2001 (when I was in my +2 first year and hating text books, but loving to read a text book, Galpa Swalpa (part 1) by Fakir Mohan Senapati). (Interestingly, I just searched for Galpa Swalpa and found the eBooks of this. Great, I can read the part 2 now.) Anyways, the concept of BookCrossing is great and you should check this out.

BookCrossing is there, still should I work on my idea? I think yes, I should. BookCrossing is really interesting. But my idea is little different. I think the platform, I will build have more controls on it. Whatever it be, I should try and let’s see whether it’s going to be a successful project or not. I need help of avid book lovers to bring this idea to execution. So, if you are a book lover and think there is a possibility in my idea and want to contribute to the project, then please fill in the following form. Your suggestions, ideas and contributions will help this project to be successful.

What do you think about this idea? Please share your views with me. This will help me a lot.

Sushant, a proud owner of iPhone4, once saw Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 at an airport. Then he thought that this can help him to boost his productivity, specially while he is on the move. Then he decided to get one, but before he asked my suggestion on this. But I asked him not to buy that, but to wait for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 750 to be available for sale in India or pre-order one.

Though he is a huge fan of iPhone4, but there are many good reasons, why I suggested to by a Samsung Galaxy Tab 750.

The new Galaxy Tab 750 offers a superlative experience with the thinnest and lightest large screen tablet available. Thanks to the amazingly think and light body, at just 565 grams and 8.6 mm slim, it can help lot Sushant, while he is on the move.

With both HSPA (21 Mbps) and WiFi access, Sushant can be connected to the internet 24X7, wherever he is. He can enjoy fast and stable connection to the internet for speedy browsing, downloads and more. This will help him to stay connected with his clients and coworkers for his business and friends to maintain his online social activities.

As Sushant is a movie buff, he can experience cinema magic with Full HD Playback on the glorious 25.65 cms tablet screen. The dual speakers surrounding the screen create a surround sound effect that makes movie watching even more realistic. He can enjoy having both front and real-facing cameras built in on the tablet for better video chat on Google and Skype, as well as HD photography. It’s time to stay entertained, wherever he goes.

Sushant can switch from app to app, do more things at once and enjoy the power of more efficient multitasking with 1 GHz Dual Core Processor. It’s time to do it all, to get the jobs done!

Thousans of top websites use rich Flash application. But on a iOS gadget, Sushant was unable to access that. But now, so whether he is browing the web or viewing online multimedia content, he will be able to see it all with hi Galaxy Tab 750 and Adobe Flash player support. It’s time to get browsing with ease.

High definition 25.65 cm display delivers excellent screen sharpness. With 1280 x 800 WXGA display boasting a pixel density of 149 PPI (Pixel Per Inch), he can enjot better details. With richer graphic for movies, photos and programs, it’s time to enjoy life-like display.

Above all those reasons, there is another special reason. He can experience power of Android Honeycomb and we will have our hands on it.

He was really excited to experience Galaxy Tab 750 as soon as possible. So, on 31st August, 2011, Wednesday, he pre-ordered this from Flipkart.com. On 2nd September, 2011, Friday, Samsung Galaxy Tab became available for sale. So, we were excited. As Flipkart delivers all products at your doorstep in just 2-3 days, we were expecting to get it by 7th September, 2011, Wednesday. Soon we came to know that they have shipped it via BlueDart couriers and we got assured that it’ll be delivered by Wednesday. But Sushant was not lucky this time. Though I have a great experience with Flipkart and I recommend it, but it did not work well for Sushant.

One day, when Sushant logged into his Flipkart account to see the status, he saw a weird error. It was saying that his payment failed. Suddenly, Sushant felt tensed, as he was very much excited to experience Galaxy Tab 750 as soon as possible. When he contacted HDFC Bank Credit Card customer care, they said that there was no payment processed by the card. And asked not to worry with confidence. The fact is that, Sushant opted for an EMI and the inexperienced and over confident customer care representative did not able to track this. So, when Sushant contacted Flipkart, they said there is no issue with the payment. But they again told a bad news.

So Flipkart had some problem with BlueDart and they returned the shipped product. And now they have shipped this via AFL. Oh! This was bad. Now Sushant had to wait for few more days to date with the Galaxy Tab 750. We were expecting this to be arrive by Thursday and tracking the shipment and when we saw that it was received at Kolkata instead Bhubaneswar, it again disappointed us. Via Kolkata, and it’ll take one more day for sure. Now to wait for Friday. Sushant has an important work on Friday and he was really curious to unpack Galaxy Tab 750. So he rushed to AFL office in the morning and asked for the shipment. But a stupid guy there told that the shipment has not yet arrived. What the Fcuk? Again?!?! But after few enquiries, finally Sushant got the shipment. And when he unpacked the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 750, he was really really excited.

I have left Sushant to enjoy his date with Galaxy Tab 750 and waiting for the time when they are going to be steady. I will update what happens to their love life.

Have a look at the recorded version of live webcast of the Galaxy Tab 750′s launch.

If data is your life,
No related posts.

If data is your life, then you can’t afford to lose it. And who knows, at what moment your data will be get lost? So it’s always better to take a backup of your data in regular interval. You may back it up in the cloud, which is the most reliable option, as services like Dropbox and other similar services doing so well. But this may be a costly affair for many, because of those recurring fees. Also if you don’t have an awesome internet connection, then this option may suck for you.

Then the second option comes – external hard disk drives. Not just for data backup, you also use portable external hard disk drives for large amount of data transfer too. Depending upon the size of the storage, you have two broad options: self powered portable (powered by the same USB connect, which used for data transfers) and external powered non portable. Depending upon your requirement and budget, you may choose either one of these two.

So, what to do first, as soon as you opened the package and connected your new external hard disk drive to your computer? I suggest you take a backup of the softwares and files, that come with that hard disk, on your computer. External Hard Disks come with some softwares to automate backup and format the hard disk. As this is a storage device, it does not come with any CD/DVD for those softwares. Instead, you will find this on your hard disk drive. First thing you should do is to take a backup of those softwares on your computer or any other storage device.

Few months back, I bought a 2 TB Seagate external hard disk drive. It came with few bundled softwares. I installed two of them to automate the backup of my computer. I had not backed up those softwares. I thought, if required, I can easily download those softwares from Seagate website easily. And one day, that hard disk crashed. I recovered all required data, using a data recovery tool. But I did not recovered the bundled softwares, as I was overconfident that I can download those easily from Seagate website. But the process of getting those softwares from Seagate are so complex that I dropped the idea of getting those from Seagate.

Today I bought a WD Passport Essential 500 GB external HDD to use as the Time Machine Backup disk for my MacBook Pro. First thing I did after I connected it to the MacBook Pro was taking backup of those WD softwares on my computer. Then within few minutes, Time Machine formatted that HDD to use it as Time Machine Backup disk and all those bundled softwares got erased from the HDD. But I have those softwares safe on my computer and more safe in the HDD as the Time Machine backup.

So, next time when you buy a new external HDD, don’t forget to take a backup of the bundled softwares come with it. Don’t commit the similar mistake like I did.

Wish happy independence day to all Indians.

I have not posted anything since a long time. I thought to break the silence with this small post.

I was appearing for a skill test in Advanced PHP. I scored 82% (though I was expecting to get 90%), but I am upset as the percentile is just 72%. During the skill test, I found many tricky questions. But I am discussing about this particular thing, as I did not found anyone discussing this on the Internet.

Question: When comparing two arrays (in PHP), what is the difference between == and === ?

There are few confusing options for the multiple choice question. I forgot those. But if you try to guess one answer, you will be confused. Let’s understand the concept.

== is the “Equal” comparison operator. It returns TRUE if $a is equal to $b after type juggling.

=== is the “Identical” comparison operator. It returns TRUE if $a is equal to $b, and they are of the same type. (introduced in PHP 4)

As both are arrays to be compared, then both == and === will return the same result. So == and === will behave in a similar way here.

So when you upload a photo with higher width (higher than the height) and do not crop it, then Facebook reduces the width to 158 pixels. As the height is related to the width, to show the image properly, the height again decreases to much lower size. For example, if the width of your photo is 1600 pixels and the height of the picture is 900 pixels, then after uploading it as your profile picture, the width becomes the fixed width size, 158 pixels and the height becomes 89 pixels. So your profile picture looks smaller in size.

So if you upload a portrait picture (taken with holding the camera horizontally), where the height of the image is larger than the width, after uploading, the profile picture will come larger. But if you upload a landspace type photo (taken with holding the camera normally), where the width of the photo is larger than the height of the photo, after uploading, the profile photo will come smaller.

What to do, if you have a landspace type of photo and you want to show your profile picture look larger? In this case, upload the photo to any of the album you have. Then go to that photo page. There you will find an link at the left hand side, below your photo, “Make Profile Picture”. Click on that, crop the required portion of the photo, and make that your profile photo. Make sure, while cropping the photo, make the height larger than the width.
